OKINAWA, JAPAN – Amelia Earhart Intermediate School hosted a Celebration of the Arts to recognize student achievement in Music, Art, Culture, P.E. and Library.

The Music performance included students singing and playing recorders, handbells and chimes. The Art Show included a gallery of artwork from all 370 students, both flat work and clay sculptures, as well as art club members wearing sculptures of their design. The Culture class highlighted traditional Japanese Cultural activities including calligraphy, games, and Martial Arts. The P.E. and Library class joined together to create a Living Museum of their favorite athletes.

“I didn’t know calligraphy could be so cool,” said fourth grade student Omar G. “I want to learn more about it now!”

The Celebration of the Arts at Amelia Earhart Intermediate School was more than just a showcase—it was a vibrant testament to the creativity, discipline, and Japanese cultural appreciation fostered in specials classes. By aligning with curriculum standards while encouraging self-expression, the event highlighted the essential role these subjects play in a well-rounded education. From the joyful melodies of music to the expressive strokes of student artwork, and the dynamic demonstrations of culture, physical education, and literacy, this celebration honored the talents of every student.

“This event really shows how important these classes are,” said parent Sean Sutherland. “While my son was nervous, his whole face lit up when he heard the applause after his music performance and saw his artwork on display. He was given a chance to shine in ways he doesn’t always get in the regular classroom setting.”
